UDPA Participates at the 6th African Dairy Conference |

The Uganda Dairy Processors Association, with its Chairman: Tom Opio, participated at the 6th African Dairy Conference (19-21 May at the Kigali Serena Hotel). The Conference proved to be a lively affair and a big success. The Association has always been a firm supporter of the African Dairy Conference. Its booth attracted a number potential clients and suppliers. The Rwanda market is for the Uganda dairy processor an attractive one, most especially as Rwanda and Uganda markets merge more closely this 1 July in the evolving East Africa Community.

FAO Dairy Project Inception Workshop |

The Uganda dairy industry has just received an encouraging boost with launch of the FAO Dairy Project (TCP/UGA/3202) worth 0.46mUSD for a period of 18 months with the purpose of updating the National Dairy Strategy as well as doing some capacity building, particularly among the stakeholder associations and unions. The project, managed by DDA Officer - Mr.Isha Muzira, comes at a timely moment when Uganda is entering the regional East Africa Community market and facing challenges improving the national 11.4m cattle base and the changing climatic conditions. One interesting focus of the project is the development of a framework to encourage the creation of mini-dairies.
The Workshop of 4th February enabled the Uganda stakeholders to get a first hand view and initial dialogue started with the project managers.
